RECORD GUINESS

Longest Marathon Static Cycling

I had the great pleasure of witnessing a truly remarkable man, George E Hood, static cycle towards the record for longest marathon static cycling.  George first accomplished this feat in 2007, with a time of 111 hours 11 minutes and 11 seconds.  Following this accomplishment, the record was broken and then reclaimed by George in 2008 with 177 hours and 45 minutes.  After this second attempt time was broken, George attempted yet again to reclaim the record.  George started the marathon at 2pm on Saturday October 23rd 2010 and continued to cycle through Monday November 1st with a total of 222 hours 22 minutes and 22 seconds.  The marathon was stationed at Urban Tri Gear in Burr Ridge, Illinois.

Guinness World Records is spooked by the success of David Finkle who set two new Halloween records in one day! David not only smashed his way through the record for the fastest time to carve a pumpkin but then ploughed on to set a new record for the most pumpkins carved in one hour. Both records were set on BBC’s Halloween special of Countryfile.
Congratulations to David Finkle on his double record-breaking achievement.
Most pumpkins carved in one hour and fastest time to carve one pumpkin
For his first record, David went head-to-head with Countryfile presenter and star of Strictly Come Dancing, Matt Baker, to set a new Guinness World Records title for the fastest time to carve a pumpkin. Record guidelines state that the pumpkin must have four facial features: eyes, ears, mouth and nose. The previous record holder was Stephen Clarke (USA) who carved a face into a pumpkin in 24.03 seconds on 31st October 2008.
Fastest time to carve a pumpkin
David successfully carved his pumpkin’s face in just 20.1 seconds, with Matt Baker admitting defeat after 28 seconds and without carving ears into his pumpkin. A new Guinness World Records title was immediately confirmed.
The second Halloween record attempt was the most pumpkins carved in one hour. The previous record was also held by Stephen Clarke for 50 pumpkins carved in one hour. In a demonstration of ghoulish strength, David successfully carved his way through 102 pumpkins in one hour! Another Guinness World Records success.

David Finkle is an expert pumpkin carver who specialises in intricate design and portraits whittled in to the sides of pumpkins. David discovered his talent during a local pumpkin carving contest and has gone on to gain fame for his carvings of Cheryl Cole, Barak Obama, Amy Winehouse and Prince Charles who have all been immortalised in squash-form.

Longest Living Snake Passes Away

Guinness World Records has sadly been informed that Fluffy, the longest snake living in captivity, passed away yesterday in its home at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium in Ohio, USA.

Fluffy, an 18 year old reticulated python (Python reticulatus), was over 7.3 m (24 ft) long when measured on 30 September 2009. Fluffy was a favorite at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium and saw between 50,000 and 70,000 admirers a week.

The reticulated python (Python reticulatus) of south-east Asia, Indonesia and the Philippines, are regularly found to exceed 6.25 m (20 ft 6 in) in length. The longest snake ever was a reticulated python measured in Celebes, Indonesia in 1912, and was 10 m (32 ft 9.5 in) long.

Fluffy passed away the morning of Wednesday, 27 October 2010, from an apparent tumor. She was a standout record in this year’s Guinness World Records 2011 edition.
